I once heard someone say that if you study and prepare daily for your passion, over a period of years you will eventually become an expert in that field.
Preparation is the activity or process of becoming ready for something. It’s defined as an action or process in which we make ourselves equipped for something we want to accomplish. In business this is essential to your success. Becoming an expert in your field of business does not so much take intellectual capabilities (although that is helpful), as much as it does to have a capacity to be disciplined daily in understanding and studying your field of business. Did you comprehend what I just said? You don’t have to have a high IQ to get ahead as much as you must have the organizational skills and the discipline to make yourself prepared. Are you preparing yourself for the next step in your career?
Yes, education is great, but some of the most successful women I know never finished college, including myself. Success can happen to you by being diligent in your preparation coupled with excitement in pursuit of your goals. Find your passion and prepare yourself to become the most knowledgeable person in your field. Knowledge of your profession does not take a higher education, but rather a determined effort to learn and gleam from those that have gone before you. In addition, studying and reading as much as you can about your field of business will only enhance your capabilities. Let’s face it, when you are knowledgeable about your product you emit confidence and people are drawn to your abilities to perform for them. This is a business fact and one that will promote your success.
Sometimes preparation requires reading something several times to grasp and gain the knowledge of your product or your client’s needs. Believe me I know this, as I am an “A” type personality and I have a problem with concentration in one area at a time. I am the type of person who has to stand up in the back of the room at a seminar or I will get bored and fall asleep. Sometimes it takes listening and taking notes. I found when I needed to study for something new that I lacked knowledge in, my best opportunity to learn and retain the information came when I kept a journal of the new things I was reading about. Not highlighting with a yellow marker, but actually rewriting what I just read and putting it as notes in my journal. There is something that happens to your memory capacity when you write out what you are reading. But whatever it takes, disciplining your daily schedule in preparation to learn more and gain knowledge is fundamental to your success. Each of us has to find our best learning skills and how to capitalize those talents into our best efforts for gaining knowledge.
I learned this when I determined to focus in one area of my business, Workers’ Compensation; once I did success called itself into my life. When I realized if I made myself more knowledgeable than my competitors I would be able to out sell any of them. When I met with a new prospect I knew I had something far better than my competitors and that was my knowledge of the product I was presenting. I could point out the need for my services and expertise and bring value to my client. In fact, if the client did not purchase my services I always believed it was their loss, not mine.
Preparation will bring confidence in your actions and thoughts, so that people are gravitated and attracted to you.
