“If you can imagine it, you can achieve it. If you can dream it, you can become it.” –William Arthur Ward
The word “possible” implies that something can actually happen. It means a thing may certainly exist given the proper circumstances or conditions, and being within the realm of reality. It’s having an inherent idea matched with ability to achieve a potential end result. The root meaning is “potent,” which denotes a power that wields a force or authority. The Greek word for possible is “dunatos,” which is where we get the word dynamite or dynamic. In other words, there is supernatural power in believing in possibilities that far exceeds what our natural mind can conceive and what circumstances are telling us at any particular moment.
Do you believe in possibilities? Because having a belief that something can actually happen is the starting point of making the seemingly impossible a reality. It’s having confidence that what you want to take place will indeed happen. When I was young I used to watch a television cartoon show called “The Jetsons.” At the time it seemed like a fantasy to watch George Jetson communicate with others through his television screen or on his watch, rather than on a phone. And yet, today that is a reality. What I thought was impossible when I was young became someone else’s possibility.
What is it that you want to become or accomplish in your career or personal life? Have you imagined it and dreamed about it, but start to lose the belief that it actually can happen? It’s time to start fresh in your dreams and call the dynamite power of possibilities into your life. Start with the belief that God is on your side and wants to help you accomplish your dreams – after all, He is the dream-maker. His supernatural power is an asset to your possibilities. Jesus once said, “With men this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.” (Matthew 19:26)
People Who Believe All Things Are Possible
Steve Jobs, co-founder of Apple Computers, pioneered a series of revolutionary technologies, including the iPhone and iPad. He believed in the impossible and made it possible. Walt Disney started with a cartoon character of a mouse and built an empire around his dream. Serena Williams has been ranked as No. 1 Women’s Tennis Player in the world. She imaged first in her mind that she was going to become a great tennis player and then accomplished it. Margaret Thatcher not only became the first woman Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, but she also was the longest-serving Prime Minister of the 20th century. She was determined to make change in the United Kingdom and accomplished it. Her dream became a possibility when others thought it was impossible.
These people believed in possibilities and went on to make the impossible, possible. For you, that might mean you want to become a doctor, a teacher, a politician, an astronaut, a professional athlete, an attorney – or even write a book; whatever it is that you dream about, start believing it actually can happen. Your dreams were put in your heart for a reason, and believing in the possibility that it can happen, calls God’s supernatural power of the universe into existence.
Steps to Helping You Achieve the Possible
Other than first starting with prayer, what is absolutely essential in accomplishing your goals is to write them down where you can look at them regularly. When you write out a goal or dream it gives more credibility that it actually can happen. By regularly looking at your written goals or dreams you start to visualize in your mind the reality of it. It also helps to speak out loud, affirming that this something you want to achieve will indeed take place. With goals, you want to first write it, then read it, then visualize it, then speak it.
The next step is to set up a strategy to achieve your end result. Create a “Plan of Action” with a timeline breaking it down into small, achievable steps. Also, if finances are needed to accomplish your dream, then add this to your “Plan of Action.” For instance, if you wanted to become an attorney and you already had your undergraduate degree, then your “Plan of Action” might include taking night classes in law school. Choosing the right school that fits into your schedule might also include looking at what kind of financial aid a school offers, such as loans, grants and scholarships.
Whatever you dream about or desire to accomplish start to imagine it can happen and quite possibly it will. Empower yourself and believe in possibilities!
