There is nothing more boring and unexciting than a person who lacks enthusiasm. These people are marked by indifference and a lack of interest in anything. They are dull and dreary, because they are uninspiring and have a tendency to pull you down. Whereas, on the other hand, a person who is enthusiastic has a lively expression a with an absorbing interest in many things. These people will impress you with their zest for life.
A person who possesses enthusiasm is passionate and will approach any task with a wholehearted desire to give it their best effort. Possessing the character quality of enthusiasm will enhance and promote your career because it will develop in you new ways of being creative. When you are enthusiastic you are willing to learn new things and when you learn new things you enable your mind to venture and imagine what could be. Being enthusiastic makes you inventive and resourceful and will help you produce a better outcome on those projects in the office.
If you are not an enthusiastic person, then strain every nerve within you to make a change. It will benefit you in your business career and personal life, and will positively impact all your relationships. One of the first steps to take starts with the moment you wake up, by thanking God for another day. Be grateful to Him for the things you have and say it out loud. Psalms 35:28 says, “And my tongue shall speak of Your righteousness, and of Your praise all the day long.”
Dwell on the positive and refresh your mind with pleasant thoughts. As you meet people throughout the day, be interested in them and ask questions about their life. When a project is thrown at you by your superiors, don’t bemoan and complain about it, but rather think to yourself: “what can I learn from this?” Show excitement in meeting new people with a strong handshake that exudes confidence. People will find you intriguing when you are interested in them.
I spoke about this before, but after many years I still think about my encounter with the movie star, Sir Anthony Hopkins. What a charming and enthusiastic man he is when you meet him! There is no doubt his enthusiasm for life is what propelled his career and made him such a great actor. I had the opportunity at an awards show to talk with him for about 20 minutes. What an impression he made on me, as I still think about it nearly 20 years later. As we spoke about several of his movies, he asked me questions about why I liked his character and performance in so and so movie. By the time I left him, I felt as if I was the movie star, not him. What an impression to leave on someone! He was more enthusiastic about meeting me than I was of him. The intensity of his questions and ability he had to look me in my eyes with complete sincerity was inspiring.
It would be fabulous for you if you could apply this same principle in the people you are around each day in your office – or, have the enthusiastic approach to your projects and tasks at hand. The excitement of life is all around you, and it’s time for you to empower yourself and be enthusiastic.
